Karachi… After collaborating with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) last year, designer Huma Adnan has been constantly working with refugee men and women in Karachi in the hope to economically empower them. Earlier this week she – in partnership with the UNHCR - hosted a fashion show to unveil her latest collection for the project.

Designer Huma Adnan’s effort to train 25 Afghan refugee women as part of United Nation Higher Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) led project is laudable. In collaboration with the NGO Aik Hunar Aik Nagar (AHAN), Huma is now able to monetize their talent of handcrafting jewellery in an exclusive collection ‘Craft Stories’.

Islamabad: Vibrant and bold jewellery made of ceramic beads, fabric, metal and stones at the fashion show “Craft Stories” in Karachi may be just jewellery for spectators. But for those refugee artisans who crafted them, it was a life-changing experience.
“I feel like I am making a difference, like I have finally found my purpose [in life],” shared Shareefa, an Afghan refugee and mother of four, who is now working as an artisan for six months now.
