The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in collaboration with designer Huma Adnan showcased a collection called ‘Craft Stories’, a jewellery line created by refugee women in Pakistan, at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. “From choosing the threads, to the motifs, the colour schemes, designs, and indigenous crafting techniques, each and every aspect was handled with finesse and elan by these diligent women.”

A range of hand-crafted jewellery will soon launch by FnkAsia, the label helmed by designer Huma Adnan.
The collection is titled ‘The Craft Stories’ – an apt title, for every jewellery piece has stories to tell. There are stories of various indigenous techniques being merged together to create a single piece, myriad different stitches mixed in with colour and tweaked to become statement-wear.

Handcrafted jewellery made by predominantly Afghan refugees, working under the supervision of Karachi-based designer Huma Adnan for the past six months, was also kept on display at the conference. The designer was also present at the event and explained how their project, initiated as an effort to financially empower the refugees, was achieving concrete goals.
